The Opunake Lions Mountain to Sea Bike Ride starts at the top of the Arawhata Road Opunake and finishes at the Opunake Beach on Monday 13th March.
The Opunake Lions Mountain to Sea Bike Ride starts at the top of the Arawhata Road Opunake and finishes at the Opunake Beach on Taranaki Anniversary Day Monday March 13th. It is a mainly a fun ride with a race option for those more serious or competitive. The ride is approximately 40 km long predominantly down hill. For younger or less fit participants there are a number of places where riders can enter or exit adjacent to roads. Approximately 80% of the ride is on farm tracks, 10% on road and the balance on paddocks. The ride traverses 11 privately owned farms which are not open for riders at any other time of the year. being organised by the Opunake Lions Club all profits are given to worthwhile causes. Profits from the 2015 year went to the Opunake Fire Brigade to help them purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera. Previous to this profits have been given to the Opunake High School Hillary Challenge Team and a number of other groups. For the 2017 ride, the Opunake Surf Life Saving Club will be the recipient.
